The Real Problem
You already see the colour.
Now mix it.
You see it right there — in the photograph, in the landscape, in your mind. That warm ochre. That quiet grey-blue in the shadow. You know
exactly what you want. But on your palette, it turns into something else. You add more yellow. Then white. Then a little red to fix it. And
now you've got a muddy pile of paint that looks nothing like what you started with. It's not your hands. It's not your eye. You simply can't
break a colour down into its pigments just by looking at it. No painter can.
A
The Endless Loop
You mix, compare, adjust, remix. The colour creeps closer — then your tube runs out. You start again with fresh paint, lose the formula, and repeat the whole cycle next session.
B
Wasted Paint, Wasted Time
Guessing costs more than paint. It costs momentum. Every unsuccessful test mix chips away at your confidence and your willingness to experiment freely.
C
The Flow-Breaker
Creative flow is fragile. The moment you pivot from painting to problem-solving colour theory in your head, you've left the zone — and it takes time to get back.
The Real Problem
three steps.
One recipe.
Why not just ask AI? Because AI sees colours on a screen — not pigments in a tube. Every brand, every tube, every pigment behaves differently when mixed. TiNTLY knows the real properties of over 1,000 paints and calculates your recipe using actual pigment science — not guesswork, not colour theory from a textbook
step 01
set up your palette
Pick your brand. Select the tubes you own. TiNTLY builds every recipe from what's already on your table — nothing you'd have to buy first.
step 02
sample your reference
Upload a photo, a painting, a screenshot — anything. Tap the colour you want to hit. TiNTLY reads the exact value in less than a second.
step 03
get your recipe
Exact proportions by clicking on your reference photo. A visual pie chart. Warm and cool variants to choose from. Export as PDF, pin it to your easel, and mix with confidence — for the first time.

The story behind tintly
build by a painter.
for painters.
Hi, I'm Markus Philipp — oil painter and workshop instructor based in
Munich, Germany.
I built TiNTLY because I kept seeing the same thing in every workshop I taught:
1
Painters show up with a case full of colours they bought hoping to get it right — but no idea which ones they actually need.
2
They mix by gut feeling, slowly working their way toward something close. A lot of paint wasted. A lot of time lost.
3
And the worst part — they stop enjoying the mixing. The thing that should be part of the creative process becomes a chore.
The problem was never talent. It was never effort. It was that nobody can look at a colour and see which pigments are hiding inside it. So I built a tool that can.
The story behind tintly
Everything you need
to know before you start.
Imagine you see a perfect strawberry cake on Instagram. The picture looks amazing — but you can't eat it. And knowing how much "red" is in the photo won't help you bake it. You need the exact recipe: how many grams of strawberries, flour, sugar — and it matters which brand of flour you're using.
Colour mixing works the same way. A regular AI only sees the colour on your screen — it has no idea what happens when you actually squeeze two tubes together on a palette. Every pigment behaves differently. TiNTLY knows the real physical properties of over 1,000 paints and calculates your recipe using pigment science — not a guess based on what looks right on a screen.
TiNTLY works exclusively from the tubes you already own. You tell it your palette, and every recipe it creates uses only those colours. The whole point is to eliminate the need to buy new paints just to hit a specific mix. But we never recommend a specific brand.
Yes, absolutely. In fact beginners often see the biggest impact — because they don't yet have years of muscle memory to fall back on. TiNTLY gives you the formula that experienced painters have built up over years, from your very first session.
TiNTLY currently supports Schmincke, Winsor & Newton, Old Holland, Williamsburg, Sennelier, Gamblin, Golden Acrylics, Liquitex, and Daler-Rowney — across oil, acrylic, gouache, and some of the watercolour. More brands are added regularly.
Your trial simply ends — there is no automatic charge or subscription. If you want to keep using TiNTLY you choose a plan at that point. No surprise payments, no credit card stored, no pressure. After your trial ends without signing any subscription your data will be deleted after 14 days
That depends on two things: the quality of your reference image, and how precisely you measure the proportions. TiNTLY gets you as close as possible — the rest is in your hands (literally).
When you upload an image, TiNTLY analyses it and maps the most common colour mixes. It checks them against a standard 8-colour palette and shows you how well you could paint it with what you have — before you squeeze out a single tube.
Yes. If a tube is empty or you want to try a different pigment, you can swap any colour for a similar one from any brand. TiNTLY recalculates the recipe on the spot. If no good substitute exists, it suggests which colour to add to your palette.
TiNTLY has built-in colour correction. Adjust temperature, contrast, brightness, and more — right inside the app, before you start picking colours.
Yes. Do your prep at home — upload your reference, pick your colours, generate your recipes. Then export everything as a PDF: your reference image with the colour markings, plus all your recipes on a printable document. Take it to the studio or save it on your phone.
Yes. Every mix you create is saved to your project. Come back any time — add more mixes, adjust existing ones, or start a new project. Nothing gets lost.
Yes. TiNTLY works on any device with a browser. On a smartphone the screen is smaller, so the experience is more comfortable on a tablet or computer — but it works.
Yes. TiNTLY is hosted in Germany under strict European data protection laws (GDPR). Your images, palettes, and recipes stay private. No payment data will be saved but you're always able to check your current transaction in case you own a subscription.
